Lighting of the Hill

Laurel Hill was proud host of our first tree lighting ceremony on Saturday, December 1, 2007. A large evergreen outside of the cemetery office and overlooking the town of Columbia was decorated with 800 lights. Children were invited to sign up for a raffle in which the winner would throw the switch to light the tree. The winner was actually several children who signed up together.
The evening's program included the lighting of 165 luminaries that were placed in a circle on the opposite side of the office. These luminaries had the names of loved ones printed on the side and were illuminated by candles. Mr. William Kloidt who emceed the event led a reading of the names listed on the luminaries that was followed by a moment of silence.

Despite the cold temperatures a sizable crowd attended the event and were entertained by the duo of Mitch and Jean Cooper who sang various carols that were preceeded with a snippet about the history of each song. There was also a special Christmas reading by Hillary Glenn.

Thank you to all who attended to make this such a wonderful and successful night. We look forward to doing this even bigger and better next year!
A special thank you to our co-sponsors and those whose efforts we could not have made this happen without.
